Welcome to (presumably) highly gifted individuals or parents of highly gifted children.

A warm welcome to this Wiki, which offers knowledge and information about high giftedness. Here you can read what we mean by “high giftedness.”

This project arose out of deep concern. A number of people who are themselves (certainly or likely) highly gifted—some of whom also have highly gifted children—were increasingly coming across reports about highly gifted children who were staying home from school, children who had (quite often) been rejected by various schools. These reports appeared on LinkedIn and/or in (regional) newspapers. These reports touched us personally, and some of us also had a professional interest. Knowledge and information about very high giftedness are fragmented, and reliable information is scarce. Thus, at the end of 2024, the initiative arose to compile knowledge and information about very high giftedness and make it available to others. There also appeared to be a need for personal stories and for mutual connection.

We also identified a key issue: among professionals working in the field of giftedness, there is no consensus on whether, within the group of gifted individuals, attention should be given to distinct subgroups. This discussion does not exist among the highly gifted themselves. They consider this distinction to be of great importance. Not because it involves a number (IQ score), but because it relates to self-image and identity.

The limited and fragmented knowledge poses challenges for (presumably) highly gifted individuals, as well as for the parents of these children and for professionals who work with gifted individuals of all ages.

We have gathered as much knowledge as possible and are now making that knowledge available through this Wiki. One limitation is that some of the academic articles are behind a paywall. We can only provide a summary of those. In addition to available literature, we have also asked people to write articles specifically for this Wiki. These articles may be shared with proper reference (mentioning this website).

If you’re looking for a professional who indicates to have knowledge and experience in the field of very high giftedness, please check out Coaches and Other Professionals [link].

We’re also working on publishing personal stories. These may include stories from highly gifted individuals themselves or from parents about their children.

It is important to us that there is a dynamic exchange and that more people contribute to this Wiki. To ensure quality, we have an editorial team. The editors of this Wiki warmly invite readers to provide feedback. If you’d like to offer suggestions or contribute something yourself, please comment here: highgiftedness.org
